I am devastated because our group  (Group 1 Year 2) did not have a chance to conduct the experiment in SMK Sri Aman regarding the PCR because of the situation in our country right now, but for a better and safer community I accept it. Even so, I am still delightful because our group still have the chance to help Group 2 Year 2 conduct their experiment regarding the DNA.
Before the event started at 7/3/2020, we had internal workshop regarding the DNA Extraction before we can teach the student on how to extract DNA from ourselves and fruit. There were 5 postgraduate students that assisted Dr. Puah in teaching us the basic stuff about DNA Extraction and it was so much fun because we were able to punch the fruit, looking at each other’s silly faces while gargling the saltwater on Wednesday evening which somehow did relieve some of our stress.
On the 7/3/2020, we arrived at SMK (P) Sri Aman around 1 o’clock by using Grab Car. It took about 20 minutes to arrive there and all we did in the car was playing a game named Undercover. As we arrived, we quickly arranged our bags at the corner of the hall and help to set up the hall before the student came flooding in. After finish our job, I began to search for the student and ask them to come into the hall to start the event. They were all very friendly as they were smiling looking at me even it was scorching hot. As they settled down, we were distributed into groups to control the students. Because of there were too many facilitators in the hall, I and Anisah decided to look around for surau and the laboratory as the experiment will be held there.
The thing that I noticed, the facilities is really good, and the school is really pretty. They have a small garden where they planted a different type of vegetables like pumpkin and spinach. Their mosque is also clean and neat. Their laboratory reminded me of my high school laboratory, it was kind of traditional with not so many modern equipment but enough for all of us. When student came into the laboratory, the facilitators were divided into several groups where all of us assisted the student and showed them the experiment. Here it become a little bit chaos. It because the presenter in the front ask all the students to follow them steps to steps, which make some of the students need to wait for other group that is quite slow. So, some of the groups just take their own lead. In my opinion, the presenter just need to show thorough the procedure of the experiment so the student able to understand. After they finish, each of the facilitators that distributed into group will assists the student and start their own experiment. This mean they does not have to wait for other group and can finish early and start to ask question regarding University Malaya if they are interested and the facilitators can also bond with the students.
After that, during the procedure I did some chit-chat with the students had a good laugh with them. During the quiz, every student was so eager to answer the questions, and everyone already know the answer. Some students were very sad they were not picked by the presenter, but we comfort them by saying we will come another day with other exciting gifts. The event finished around 4 to 5 o’clock and we bid goodbye to the students. We took Grab Car 6-Seater to go back to our respective college. It was a long day as we had a lab in the morning for Molecular Techniques, so we really need to rest. I felt content the whole day with my friends, and with my new friends 😊
