GIG 1005 SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT

REFLECTIVE ESSAY

GIG 1005 or so called Social Engagement is a very unique and interesting course although at first, I thought it would just be another same old course where you just attend lecture and do some test and try to score as high as possible. But clearly it was way more engaging than that.

 

  A lot of hurdles were encountered during this courses, one of it is having problem on when to held the workshop because of students different daily schedule during weekend but finally after a lot of discussion and sacrifices made,it is finalized to hold on 13th of March 2020.

The workshop is a lot of fun and it truly give me a different way on my perspective towards microbiology. There were a lot of activities done during the worksop to prepare for the event such as learning about shapes of bacteria, determining the distance of bacteria spread when we sneeze, deducing the best way of washing hands and so on. I was also able to bond with the other students in my group during the workshop which promotes more teamwork in the group. All in all, it was very beneficial and at the same time fun having the workshop.

  Unfortunately, there are just some hurdles that seems impossible to pass through and led to the end of our module. The sudden Movement Control Order (MCO) that was announced on 18th March 2020 by our Prime Minister because of the extreme cases of COVID-19 arising in our country. The MCO is an order that restrained the movement of all citizens in the country which include us signifying the end of the module. However, what was more important at hand is to ensure our own health and safety due to the COVID-19 so it was inevitable that the MCO was issued by the Prime Minister to maintain the peace in our country. Although I was a bit disappointed because of this but nevertheless I knew what was more important. 

So, from that point on we were given tasks online to continue our assessment on this course which are making info-graphic poster, video on proper hand washing and online questionnaire. We divided ourselves into group to complete the tasks in a more organized way and I was tasked with making the video on proper hand washing. All the works were done in our home where we communicate using online platform such as whatsapp and Zoom. It was another experience to me to be working together with actually being together and it was kind of convenient.

I do hope that the video made was able to properly conveyed the message of proper hand washing especially to the students of SMK Sri Pantai which were suppose to visit but never get the chance to. And also the info-graphic which I hope will increase the students awareness towards the importance of Proper hygiene. The questionnaire was mainly on assessing the students of biomedical department on proper hygiene. Lastly, let’s all stay safe during this pandemic and take proper care of ourselves now and in the future.
