REFLECTIVE ESSAY SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT 2020


From what I  experienced in previous social engagement program with the students of SMK Lembah Subang, I can conclude that there is so many chances we can grab to benefit other people. As I join this program, I can help the students to engage in a new field of study which is genetics. They enjoyed the lesson we were giving  and because of that I enjoyed it too. I also learned that it is not easy to learn new things. As for the student they were learning a new knowledge while us the facilitator learned how to deal with the society better especially teenagers. Plus, I think it is our responsibility to engage with the society in order to bring our society further and to build a better environment for our living.

I learn that in engaging with the society, we need a lot of skill that require practice. For example, we need to practice how to explain things politely and not hurting anybody’s feeling with our words. This is to make sure that our intention to give goods to the society accepted well. Besides, I think we need learn how to handle the unexpected things that happened during our program quickly and reasonably. During our last visit, I accidentally sit on a broken chair at the school and as soon as I sit, the chair collapsed. I was so shocked but luckily my friends help me repair the chair very quickly. If its not because of them I don’t know how to lift the chair alone since it is made of stone. 

Lastly, I hope this kind of program will be continued for the next batch. I think it is a very good and brilliant opportunity to develop a better product from our university. I felt sorry to my friend from the other group as they cannot experienced this. The virus really affects us all. In a nutshell, this program brings a lot benefits to both us, Biomedical Sciences’ students and the society.

6 Mac 2020 Pada hari jumaat bertarikh 6 Mac 2020, telah diadakan program jalinan masyarakat di SMK Lembah Subang. Program ini melibatkan 37 pelajar Tingkatan 4 SMK Lembah Subang dan 26 mahasiswa/i Tahun 1 Sains Bioperubatan Universiti Malaya. Program ini bertujuan untuk mendedahkan para pelajar akan modul 3 : DNA Extraction. Program ini berlangsung sejurus tibanya mahasiswa/i di SMK Lembah Subang dari Universiti Malaya pada jam 9:00 pagi. Dataran SMK Lembah Subang Dr. Puah Suat Moi memberi taklimat ringkas untuk perlancaran program. 9.30 a.m. Semua pelajar telah berkumpul di Makmal Sains 1. Program ini dimulakan dengan sesi pengenalan  setiap fasilitator dan diteruskan dengan taklimat ringkas akan tentatif sepanjang program oleh ketua kumpulan 1 iaitu Adlina. D-Day Aktiviti di SMK (P) Sri Aman

Special thanks to all SMK (P) Sri Aman participants especially Teacher Evelyn Soon, Teacher Bahiyah and 40 students of Form 4 who helped and contributed to making this programme a fabulous success. Also thank you to Dr. Puah Suat Moi and Dr. Chai Hwa Chia, senior lecturer from Department of Biomedical Science for guiding us. We also appreciate CITrA and UMCARES for funding this programme. Pada 28 Februari 2020, satu aktiviti bersama 40 orang pelajar SMK (P) Sri Aman telah diadakan. Seramai 37 orang mahasiswa/i tahun 2 Sains Bioperubatan Universiti Malaya telah terlibat dalam menjayakan program jalinan masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk mendedahkan para pelajar kepada pengetahuan tentang 'DNA Extraction'. Mahasiswa/i bertolak dari Universiti Malaya pada jam 12:00 p.m. dan tiba di SMK (P) Sri Aman pada jam 12:40 p.m. Dewan SMK (P) Sri Aman.
