Reflective Essay by Nur Aina Najihah MIC190033
In the past few weeks, my friends and I worked together on our group project which is Social Engagement Projects as it is one of our university courses. This project was held at SMK Lembah Subang, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. On of the main purpose of this project is to introduce about the secret of our life which is DNA to the school students. This programme also allow us to enhance or soft skills among the community. Before we started our programme, our group leader, Adlina had divided the works among ourselves.
As for me, I was assigned for taking care of the gift for the quizzes held during the programme. To prepare for the gift, my friends and I together with our seniors went to the supermarket to buy the gifts. All the preparations such as wrapping up the gifts were all done smoothly before the programme started. One of the biggest hurdle in the programme for me is to cooperate with seniors . During this programme, I was able to get to know seniors more and I salute them because they are able to do a very good job on managing this programme with their tight schedule of classes and labs.
As the programme was held, the biggest challenge in this is time management. Everything needs to do accurately during the time within to avoid some lacking points on it. Everyone’s cooperation are very well appreciated as they follow the timeline given. As the result, the event go smooth and all of us have fun.
With all the hurdle came hidden strength as I discovered that I can enhance my soft skills through the communication with groupmates and the students. Without I realised,I talked a lot during the hands on session as we as the facilitator need to guide the students about this experiment. I also manage to share my experience about the experiments, college life and my course to students. Obviously, this can be very beneficial for me no matter what the career I decide to into as we need to have a good soft skills in order to adapt in the future.
Last but not least, after the event has ended, I managed to know more people and become even closer with them as we all worked together to make this programme a success. I overcome my shyness a bit to approach people more and become friendly with all people. To sum up, this project is definitely a good start for me to become even more active in community work. All of these tasks were challenging but beneficial for me. I thanks all the people involved for giving me this opportunity to be part of it.
